Catherine Guinevere Broadstock is an ‘exciting and passionate’ pianist who has been in demand for some twenty years for her ability to perform and accompany with accuracy and insightful musicianship.
Catherine is a versatile performer who regularly performs for Opera Queensland, The Queensland Choir, Queensland Symphony Orchestra Chamber Concerts, the Redland Sinfonia, 4MBS Festival of Classics and for jazz and crossover artists such as Tyrone Noonan and Suellen Cusack. She holds degrees from the University of Southern Queensland and the Queensland Conservatorium (Griffith University) and has studied piano with Kevin Power, Wendy Lorenz, Natasha Vlassenko, Oleg Stepanov and masterclasses with Cedric Tiberghien and Roger Woodward.
Catherine (nee Lynagh) was a first prize winner of the Queensland Piano Competition and the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University’s 2006 Margaret Nickson Prize.
In 2005 Catherine was pianist with the Australian Youth Orchestra on their state tour and in 2006 was pianist with the Sydney Youth Orchestra on their tour of Spain and Portugal.
In March 2007, Catherine and fellow pianist, Adam Gordon Herd, made their debut with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra performing Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos. Catherine has also performed as a soloist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and in such halls as the Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto and the Avery Fisher Hall at the Lincoln Centre in New York City. She has also toured Australia and New Zealand as a soloist and chamber pianist.
In 2010 she premiered Sean O'Boyle's Scottish Piano Rhapsody on an international tour to the USA and Canada. A recording was released on an ABC Classics CD and DVD Scotland The Brave with the Queensland Pops Orchestra in 2011.
In 2012 she released a CD of Haydn Sonatas and has recorded the piano music of Australian composer, Dr Graeme Wright Denniss for upcoming CD release.
In 2015 Catherine accompanied vocalist Tyrone Noonan's jazz cabaret experience 'Vegas! Standards Reborn Tyrone Noonan Celebrating Sinatra'. Tyrone said of her in interview: “She’s such an incredible musician. It’s interesting because she’s come more from the classical world and we’re working together in Jazz, which is something I thought wouldn’t normally happen. But to her credit, she’s a classical musician who can swing. This can be difficult if you don’t naturally have it.”
She has performed with Australian soprano Maggie Noonan and regularly accompanies the exciting classical crossover soprano, Suellen Cusack. In 2016 she was an accompanist for the Mietta Song Competition.
In June 2021 she was soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto #20 with the Redland Sinfonia and in May 2022 was the accompanist for Opera Queensland's 'Festival of Outback Opera' production of 'The Long Way Home'. In June 2023 she was the soloist in Beethoven's Piano Concerto #3 with the Redland Sinfonia.
Catherine has written several articles for Quadrant Magazine and owns rescued chickens, two cats and is a keen gardener. She is married to esteemed Australian composer Brenton Broadstock and they live on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
In July 2024 she qualified as a certified piano technician and tuner.
